How to design your own Business Card

By Mr. Business Card Templates

12/10/2010 This tutorial will show you how to easily design your own business card using Adobe Photoshop.
*** Remember If you make any mistakes, you can go to Edit>Undo Stage Change to go back to previous step.
1 - Open Photoshop and click on File>new

2 - Enter the following details:
Width 3.5/Inches, Height: 2/Inches, Resolution: 300, Color Mode: CMYK Color
The reason we change the Colour Mode is because most printers will require your file to be in CMYK.

4 - Make sure to save the file immediately so that you can save your progress easily during the whole process. Choose File>Save As. Choose a File name and location and make sure the format is .PSD. Try to save your progress as often as possible!

When I work on a business card Design, I like it to look as close to real size as possible. You can size the image larger or smaller by holding CTRL and using the + or - signs.

3 - Fill the background with the color of your choice. I will choose White.

4 - Import any logo or images by clicking on File>Open and find the folder that has your files.

5 - Drag and drop your file into the business card layout. You can size down the logo or graphic to your desired size by clicking Edit>Transform>Scale, make sure to hold the CTRL key while sizing or your graphic will get all distorted.

6 - Let's add a box on the bottom to put some text and add a little color to the design.
Select the Rectangle Tool and draw a box by clicking and holding down on your mouse, you can move the box after by using the directions on your keyboard or by using the drag tool. I will add a stroke to the box by clicking on Layer> Layer Style> Stroke.

7 - Now we can add some text using the Text Tool. With the Text tool selected, click anywhere that you would like the text to appear on the card. You can now enter your text. You can edit all aspects of the text in the Character box similar as how you would do it in MS Word.

8 - Here is what I have so far.

Now There is something missing on the bottom right so I will use a brush to add some cool design to that area of the business card. A cool site where you can download Free brushes is Brusheesy (Google How to install a Photoshop Brush for help on installing the brush). Once the brush is installed, select the Brush Tool, now you will need to load the new brush, right click anywhere on the business card and you should see the Master Diameter show up, there are two small little arrows on the top right, click them and select "load brushes". Your new Brush should be installed, now right click again and choose the brush that you want from the list.

Before applying the new design, create a new layer by going to Layer>New>Layer.

9 - Now you are ready to apply the brush, click on wherever you want the design to appear on your business card. Again if you make mistakes you can hold CTRL-ALT and Z to go back. You can also adjust the size of the brush by right clicking and going back to the Master Diameter.
Here is the final result:
