We are pleased to share that Chris Holmes has returned to Barriston Law as Counsel! Chris is a lawyer in our Huntsville office who practices in the areas of Corporate Law, Real Estate Law, and Wills & Estates. Chris was called to the bar in January 2019 after completing his Articling term with Barriston. Chris completed his law degree at the Peter A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia. Prior to pursuing his law degree, Chris earned a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Finance, from Ryerson University. Outside of the practice of law, Chris enjoys roasting coffee and boating, having previously worked as a ferry boat driver in Vancouver. Welcome back to Barriston, Chris!

I sit on Barriston LLPs Student Hiring Committee and we recently wrapped up our university and law student summer position interviews. This year we had well over 100 applicants. The pool of candidates were competitive, diverse, came from an array of journeys and had various interests. As I reflect on this years round of interviews I’m reminded of Brene Brown’s comments regarding “fitting in vs belonging”: Fitting in is about assessing a situation and becoming who you need to be to be accepted. Belonging, on the other hand, doesn't require us to change who we are; it requires us to be who we are. I encourage law students, articling students and new lawyers to take a deep dive into the places you’re interviewing. It’s a significant amount of work, but the ones who do their research really stand out. Your dream job may not be your first job, but if you really care (which I hope you do… as we spend the majority of our lives at work), you’ll find where you belong. Having had quite a colourful past (many different jobs/life experiences, ahaha), I am beyond grateful to have found a place I truly feel valued, respected, and appreciated. I show up everyday as the genuine authentic version of myself and I believe I am celebrated for that. Many of my colleagues have become my dearest friends. I trust our Partnership. I’m proud of the work we do in the community. The list really goes on.
