Our team would like to thank the The Alberta Association of Architects for hosting another invaluable Banff Session—a bi-annual event in Banff, AB, that brings together over 400 architects, interior designers, and students to network and learn. “Rebuild” was the theme for #banffsession2024, which explored resilience and how we can rebuild our environments in the wake of extreme climate events and natural disasters. This year was particularly significant for Keystone as we were proud sponsors of the event, and our Sr. Principal, Eric Poxleitner, was one of eight architects who submitted an entry to the sketch competition to reimagine the Duggan House, the building that the Alberta Association of Architects called home since 1978. #AlbertaAssociationofArchitects #AAA #banffsession

Marilyn on the Park is an up-and-coming townhouse development in the City of Langley by our highly valued client, Sync Properties. Keystone had the pleasure of designing six buildings and 30 units within this nine-building, 43-unit complex, offering 3 and 4-bedroom layouts that were thoughtfully crafted with young families in mind. The site's gentle slope has been integrated into the architectural narrative as the townhouses gracefully cascade along the street level. Each building embodies modernist principles with refined simplicity, epitomized by the arctic white exterior that is punctuated by darker-toned buildout. Strategically placed board and batten features highlight the roof form at the intermediate pop-ups and along the raised end portions that wrap around the building, creating a point of interest along the building’s edge. At the ground level, the use of brick and boldly pronounced doors accentuate the primary entrances, elevating the sensory experience as one approaches. Introducing JEM, a prominent 6-storey, 97-unit condominium in collaboration with #Quanterradevelopments in the City of Abbotsford's vibrant core. JEM's u-shaped design elevates the surrounding streetscape by boasting corner features that emulate a sleek curtain wall, anchoring its visual presence. Enriching its architectural allure, a two-storey brick podium echoes the appeal of traditional brownstone design, infusing the structure with a sense of grounded elegance. Meanwhile, a blend of contemporary materials, colours, and a distinctive entryway enhances the stepped appearance, increasing its aesthetic appeal. Adjacent to the courtyard, green spaces cleverly conceal surface parking and the underground parkade entrance, providing residents with abundant garden beds, benches, and a charming gazebo flooded with sunshine. The first of five meticulously crafted six-storey buildings in The Colton, a mixed-use development comprising 473 units by Tannin Developments, has been completed. The west-coast modernist exterior is characterized by towering glulam columns and bold timber beams, creating a lively interplay of textures against the charcoal and burgundy façade. The main entrance features a stylish pass-through design, with a roof adorned in wooden cladding and accent lighting. The same aesthetic extends to the roof overhangs, safeguarding the wrap-around corner balconies while adding visual interest. The Colton is a pedestrian-centric village campus that enriches residents' lifestyles. In the not-too-distant future, it will boast a diverse range of retail and commercial spaces, an additional multi-use facility, a serene courtyard, and two rooftops packed with entertaining spaces.
