  • 🦶Did you know? Foot skin infections are among the most frequently (20.6%) reported disorders in people with diabetes. In general, skin infection and dry skin (xerosis) have been shown to be highly prevalent with appropriate moisturizer cream. 🧴Among foot skin and nail infections in people with diabetes, fungus is more common than bacterial or viral infections. 🖐🏻 Repetitive trauma from ill-shoes is the most common cause of foot ulceration in people with diabetes. 🦶 Excessive immersion of the foot in soap and water, together with the presence of damage to the cuticle of periungual fold, may result in distortion of the underlying tissues of the nail, causing spaces that can be easily infected. ✅Learn more about prevention by following us! 🔁Share it with someone that needs this information! 💚Save this to watch it later

  • 😌Today we are going to debunk some common myths about wound care and the diabetic foot ulcers. ❌Myth 1: Wounds must be dried in the open air to heal faster. ✅Truth: Keeping the wound moist can help speed healing and prevent the formation of scabs that are food for bacteria and can delay healing. Use special wound care dressings to keep the wound clean and moist and ask for a referral to a wound care support. ❌Myth 2: If a wound doesn't hurt, it's not serious. ✅Truth: Wounds may not hurt due to lack of nerve endings. This does not mean that the injury is not serious. If you have a wound that won't heal or looks infected, it's important to seek medical attention (even if it is small). ❌Myth 3: People with diabetes cannot exercise as this makes the foot ulceration worse. ✅Truth: Exercise is important for overall health, including diabetic foot health. It's important to talk to your doctor about what type of exercise is right for you and how you can exercise safely. We offer specialized wound and diabetic foot care to help you achieve healing. 🏥🙌🏼Don't hesitate to contact us for more information on how we can help you maintain your health and well-being while navigating your healing journey! #woundcare #diabeticfoot #ontario #selfmanagement #diabetes #canada
