We’re so excited to host another M2PI challenge with Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences 🚀 Now on its third annual engagement, Awesense works with PIMS graduate students and advisors to help them solve complex energy-related problems using the Awesense Energy Transition Platform. This year’s challenge will have students devising algorithms for optimizing phase balance by moving load between phases. We love this event as it gets students working on real-world energy problems. And, because the Awesense Energy Transition Platform is really easy to use, students do not need a background in energy or intensive coding experience to excel in the challenge. #DataScience #GridTech #Awesense

Transformer load is the power drawn by electrical loads connected to a #transformer. Grid operators must avoid overloading transformers to prevent damage, outages, and reduced lifespan. As the distribution grid sees more connection requests (businesses, homes, #evchargers, #heatpumps, etc.), maintaining #reliableservice without overburdening transformers requires effective capacity management and load assessment for new connections. Traditional methods for estimating transformer #load, such as using approximate load or reserved capacity, often lack precision and don't include real measured data. Typically, transformers lack direct measurement, with only individual meters beyond the transformer being monitored. Therefore, aggregating downstream transformer load is essential to model and manage transformer loading accurately, especially for new #connections, enabling #gridoperators to make informed decisions.
