    Have you ever sat back and watched the amount of time someone can work on their own? How long can they go before needing more direction or having to check in with someone? How does that correlate with the work they’re required to do? Data entry jobs are very present-focused, and directions are clear with minimal risk. Impacts of decisions within the role stretch out over days, weeks, and maybe a couple of months. Contrast that with the work of a manager. Managers do work that has an impact/shows results that are measured in one- or two-year increments. Decisions made today may not play out for a year.   When there’s a mismatch between the person and job, the employee needs to check in far more than what’s required for the job. That means the manager ends up doing much of what they’ve hired someone else to do. We have some upcoming TRAITS training in Edmonton and Vancouver where we discuss this amongst many other insightful topics.
