Marking a monumental moment, the University of Ottawa breaks ground on its $280-million Advanced Medical Research Centre. This 350,000 sq.ft building will stand as the Ottawa Health Innovation Hub, shaping the future of research in our city. We're thrilled to be part of this effort, collaborating with our partners PCL Construction, and Parkin Architects. A special shoutout to our structural team, including Mathieu Butovsky, Sharon Hagen, Harry Hayes, and Ned Hollinworth, whose expertise advances this vision. #ImpactfulEngineering https://lnkd.in/gxG_V_Hv

About us
Cleland Jardine Engineering Ltd. (CJE), now a member of BPA, is a consulting engineering firm specializing in the structural investigation, analysis, design and construction review of new buildings, and their components, as well as the rehabilitation and renovation of existing buildings. Simply put, we design smart, solid structures. Big and small. Built on innovative design ideas, methods, and strong engineering principles. More importantly, we understand the life cycle of a building. We think about the needs of today, as well as years into its future. We recognize that a building’s materials and components need to stand strong for years to come, and we will always factor in the ever-changing and evolving demands on the building’s structure. Housing a Team that contains Structural Engineering expertise along with a Building Science team that specializes in the repair and rehabilitation of existing buildings, our group can successfully complete any mandate. Our TEAM design approach means we leverage our wealth of experience from all areas of our team to provide engineering solutions that improve building performance, aesthetics, efficiency, and costs to provide better value for our clients. CJE currently employs over 60 staff members including eighteen Professional Engineers, as well as certified Engineering Technologists, CAD/BIM Modelers, and administrative staff. We’re proud to use the latest in structural engineering analysis and design software, and CAD programs. To meet the needs of an ever-changing construction industry, the firm has developed a BIM group which utilizes the latest versions of Autodesk’s REVIT, and BIM 360.

Our VP Brian Johnson recently joined Fady Khudair on the "Kanata on the Rocks" podcast, where he shared his engineering journey, insights into his passion for soccer coaching, cherished family moments, and much more. In this heartwarming video, Brian shares a personal experience about helping build the University of Ottawa Heart Institute - this building played a crucial role in saving his grandfather's life. This story beautifully illustrates the profound impact that engineering can have on people's lives and reinforces our belief in the power of #ImpactfulEngineering here at BPA You can watch the full podcast here: https://lnkd.in/epycKBDm

Cleland Jardine Engineering (Now BPA) reposted this
So this happened yesterday..... Old friend and soccer dad from the "Coach B" days asked me to join him for a coffee and some conversation about life, Ottawa, and my new journey as VP at BPA, where we are trying to be leaders in building engineering, sustainability, and innovation. Soccer stories, how Brian should never be a referee, growing up in Kanata, loving Ottawa, a passion for buildings, and how a simple set of drawing plans helped build the place that saved my grandfather's life were all on the table; along with some laughs and coffee. Hopefully it turns out! Thanks for the conversation Fady Khudair, we do beers by the backyard firepit next.
Talk about engineering and construction. I had the absolute pleasure today of interviewing @bajohnson110 with BPA one of the top Canadian engineering firms with presence in six different markets and iconic projects all around our beloved city. Stay tuned as this one is a very interesting one and you’ll know why once you watch the full episode. Last weekend, our VP Brian Johnson had the privilege of presenting the Iron Ring to Abbey Miller, a valued member of CJE/BPA. This cherished tradition begins an exciting journey for over 600 engineering students, including Abbey. Witnessing the achievements of young and ambitious engineers during these ceremonies is truly inspiring. Abbey, your journey has only just begun, and we're thrilled to witness the incredible heights you'll reach. Congratulations! 🎉
I may not have been able to take any “real” photos during the Ritual Calling of the Engineer at Faculty of Engineering and Design - Carleton University / Carleton Engineering And Design Iron Ring Ceremony yesterday, but on Saturday I did get to hand BPA/Cleland Jardine Engineering Ltd., a member of BPA ‘s very own Abbey Miller her iron ring. This is an extremely special day in the lives of an Engineering Student. While it represents an ending, it more importantly represents a beginning. The next steps in the journey began for 600 plus engineering students yesterday and it took me back in time to 1996 when I got handed my ring by Ken McMartin from the CU Civil Engineering lab. It was also very special for me to hand the ring to a person who I have known for over 16 years who will now embark on a great career. It also represented another step in my own journey. Another footstep in the sands of my own path in life. Thank you, Abbey. Thank you for the honor of sharing that moment in time with you (despite embarrassing you with my tears….).

World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) is observed every year on March 21. It is a global campaign to spread awareness about Down Syndrome, or Trichromium 21. Our own Jeffrey Bedford is showing his support today by wearing bright, mismatched socks. Today is when people from all over the world can unite and advocate for the rights, inclusion, and well-being of individuals with Down Syndrome in our schools, communities and beyond. “Let’s stop ‘tolerating’ or ‘accepting’ difference, as if we’re so much better for not being different in the first place. Instead, let’s celebrate difference, because in this world it takes a lot of guts to be different” Kate Bornstein #WorldDownSyndromeDay #RockYourSocks
