💭After alcohol is swallowed, it is absorbed primarily from the small intestine into the veins that collect blood from the stomach and bowels and from the portal vein, which leads to the liver. ➡️From there it is carried to the liver, where it is exposed to enzymes and metabolized. 🙌Alcohol can damage our body in various ways: 1)Liver: Chronic alcohol consumption can lead to liver diseases such as fatty liver, alcoholic hepatitis, fibrosis, and cirrhosis. 2) Brain: Alcohol affects neurotransmitters, leading to impaired cognitive function, memory loss, and can contribute to conditions like Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome. 3) Heart: Heavy drinking can weaken the heart muscle, leading to conditions like cardiomyopathy and arrhythmias. 4) Pancreas: Alcohol can cause pancreatitis, a painful inflammation of the pancreas which affects digestion and metabolism. 5) Immune System: Excessive alcohol weakens the immune system, making the body more susceptible to infections. 6) Cancer: Alcohol consumption is linked to an increased risk of several types of cancer, including liver, breast, throat, and esophageal cancer. 7) Digestive System: Alcohol irritates the digestive tract, leading to ulcers, gastritis, and an increased risk of gastrointestinal bleeding. 8) Nutritional Deficiencies: Alcohol interferes with the body's ability to absorb nutrients, leading to deficiencies in essential vitamins and minerals. 9) Mental Health: Alcohol can exacerbate or contribute to mental health issues such as depression and anxiety.
