Tips to help navigate your fertility journey In honour of Canadian Fertility Awareness Week, Olive Fertility offers valuable tips and updates on fertility coverage options and IVF funding in B.C. When Amanda Taylor and her husband Matt Taylor were ready to start a family at age 38, they thought it wouldn’t be a big deal. “You read about all these celebrities having babies in their 40’s and 50’s and figure that it will be easy,” says Taylor. However, after trying for six months without success, the couple went to see their family doctor and were referred to a fertility specialist where they received the frustrating diagnosis of unexplained infertility. BC's New Public IVF Funding: What We Know, What We Don't, and What's Next Dr. Beth Taylor April 19, 2024 It is an exciting time in BC. The provincial government’s announcement that our Medical Services Plan (MSP) will begin funding IVF in 2025 came as a wonderful surprise earlier this spring. We learned when you did - when the news outlets told us. Well, I learned when my phone blew up with friends texting the news while I was seeing patients. Clinic directors have contacted government policy makers and there are plans for consultation with IVF clinics, patients, and the general public. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gvtCbcQA

The results of our NICEST trial are published in F&S! Noninvasive PGT-A is a promising approach for aneuploidy screening of blastocysts - but let’s make sure we don’t let our exuberance get the better of us this time! Emulating the paradigm of the “non-selection” study, we transferred embryos blinded to the niPGT-A results to challenge the risks of false positive results. Prior niPGT-A studies have only reported outcomes of “normal” embryos, or just indexed to TE biopsy results. Significant Findings: -Whole chromosome copy number variations (CNVs) showed a predictive positive value (PPV) of 94% and RR of 2.2 for embryo non-viability. -Limiting analysis to uniform CNVs, while excluding intermediate ones, yielded a PPV of 100%. -Other CNVs of uncertain reproductive significance did not consistently predict non-viability. -Failed QC (7.5%) was too frequent. We need to improve our techniques. Key Message: It is encouraging that with relatively “off the shelf” methods, a high false positive risk with niPGT-A was not apparent when whole chromosome abnormalities were reported. However, not all “abnormal” CNV’s were indicative of non-viability. A more nuanced approach is needed in interpreting these results. Our study is an important step, but further research is essential: -Refining methods to decrease QC failures and enhance result interpretation. -Expanding research to larger and more diverse populations to validate these findings. Stay tuned for NICEST-2… Thanks to my amazing Co-Investigators Catherine Welch Sophia Tormasi Sally Rodriguez Olive Fertility Centre SEQUENCE46, LLC The Fertility Partners Thermo Fisher Scientific

Great presentation at #PCRS2024 today by #UBC REI fellow, Dr Rahana Harjee! We performed a Kaplan-Meier analysis of cumulative pregnancy rates from 1832 SET’s of embryos derived from vitrified donor oocytes from 3 egg banks in 714 patients to determine if assured refund plans are “worth it”. In our population, given the high cumulative success rates per embryo transfer, the premiums for assured refunds are not financially justified for most patients. That said, these programs may provide value that can’t be measured in monetary terms, especially for patients who had prolonged struggles with their own eggs before moving onto donor eggs. It’s hard to put a price on peace of mind. Olive Fertility Centre The Fertility Partners

Questions about BC provincially-funded IVF treatment? The Province of British Columbia announced yesterday that beginning April 2025, BC will launch a new publicly funded in-vitro fertilization program, funding both treatment and medication for one cycle. Olive Fertility currently has no details about the program. Please do not contact our clinic for information as we plan to provide updates on our website and social media when we learn more. Olive Fertility Centre celebrates this announcement for people of BC seeking assisted reproduction to grow their family. If you are struggling to conceive or have concerns about your fertility, we encourage you to book a full fertility assessment as soon as possible. It is particularly important to see a fertility specialist if you are age 37 or older, or have a known condition impacting your fertility. Currently MSP covers fertility consultations and most assessments for residents of BC, as well as some treatment with a referral from a family physician or virtual clinic. https://lnkd.in/g9xtPwTK
