The fact of the matter is that the material used on the ceilings from the latter half of the 20th century was a heavy stucco/stipple compound product that can add immense stress and weight to the ceiling drywall, and could lead to sagging and droopy drywall.
Stucco or stipple for ceilings was perceived as fancy, and stylistic, so the future considerations of it’s structural effect were not on the minds of the home builders of the time. This is a problem we’ve come across that can cause added processing time to the stucco or stipple removal task. When popcorn ceiling is painted, it certainly adds a measure of difficulty and therefore added time to the job. You can double check if your ceiling is painted by rubbing it and checking for flaking. Always let us know in advance if your popcorn ceiling is painted, as this will definitely assist in providing an accurate quote.
