Frequently Asked Questions

Popcorn ceiling removal is the process of eliminating the retro style popcorn style stucco that is affixed to many ceilings in homes that were made between 1950 and the late 1980’s. It was a significant trend, and if you’ve got stucco texture or popcorn ceiling in your home and you’re looking for a pain free way to get it done, that’s where we come in.

Ceiling Champions have an unrivaled combination of experience in the field of popcorn ceiling removal, and with expertise and experience comes a tidy way to rid your home of popcorn ceiling. A mess free process for the removal of this former trendy style of ceiling is a rarity, and we at Ceiling Champions have become the masters of clean, fast, and smooth removal of popcorn ceilings and stucco ceiling. Let the champs handle your re-smoothification.

The fact of the matter is that the material used on the ceilings from the latter half of the 20th century was a heavy stucco/stipple compound product that can add immense stress and weight to the ceiling drywall, and could lead to sagging and droopy drywall.

Stucco or stipple for ceilings was perceived as fancy, and stylistic, so the future considerations of it’s structural effect were not on the minds of the home builders of the time. When we talk about removing the stucco from your ceiling, we truly mean just THAT. We use our scrapers and trowels and sheer off the heavy stucco surface material to reveal the smooth drywall ceiling that hides beneath. Depending on the depth of the stucco and the sheer amount of ceiling square footage, the process can take anywhere from a couple hours to a couple days.

This question certainly pops up a lot, A LOT. If you’ve ever done any drywall or stucco work on your own, you’ve definitely experienced the dust and debris that occurs as a result of sanding and fine finishing the drywall work. However, when you’re part of a team such as the Ceiling Champions (that is comprised of decades of experience in the drywall and stucco business) you learn how to PREVENT the mess, as well as recognize what will lead to a mess.

A stealthy combination of dust-free compound, vacuum connected sanding machines, and plastic drop sheets, we can assure you that you’ll be mess free, dust free, and ultimately stucco ceiling and popcorn ceiling free. Your home is your palace, and we are your guests.

This is a problem we’ve come across that can cause added processing time to the stucco or stipple removal task. When popcorn ceiling is painted, it certainly adds a measure of difficulty and therefore added time to the job. You can double check if your ceiling is painted by rubbing it and checking for flaking. Always let us know in advance if your popcorn ceiling is painted, as this will definitely assist in providing an accurate quote.

In essence, a painted stucco ceiling is a problem – But certainly one that we can handle. We are familiar with just about every possible configuration of ceiling, we are the ones to help. Especially if it’s been on Hubby’s to-do list for years :)
