Most dental practices treat the map pack and the organic results as one problem. They are not. The three listings beside the map are ranked mainly on proximity, prominence and relevance signals attached to the Google Business Profile, while the blue links below are ranked on the website itself. A clinic can dominate one and be invisible in the other.
What actually moves the map pack: a complete and correctly categorised Google Business Profile, a steady flow of recent reviews that mention the treatment by name, consistent name, address and phone details across the directories Google cross-checks, and pages on the practice website that match the services and the city people are really searching for. Proximity is the one factor nobody can change, which is why a practice competing outside its immediate radius has to be stronger on everything else.
The three mistakes we see most often are a service area set far wider than the practice actually serves, categories left on whatever Google auto-assigned, and review replies that never mention a treatment. Correcting those usually produces movement before a single new page is published.
