No Added Water — Why What’s NOT in Your Raw Pet Food Matters.

When shopping for raw dog or cat food, most pet owners naturally look at the ingredients.

Chicken, beef, turkey, lamb, vegetables and organ meats are all familiar ingredients that help us understand what we're feeding our pets.

But there's another question worth asking:

How much of the food you're purchasing is actually made up of the ingredients you intended to buy?

At Dee Dee's Raw, we believe that question matters.

Meat Naturally Contains Water — But There's a Difference

All fresh meat naturally contains moisture. That's completely normal.

However, some pet food manufacturers add additional water to their recipes during production.

Depending on the product, added water may serve different purposes, including adjusting texture, helping with processing or increasing moisture content.

The important distinction is that naturally occurring moisture in meat isn't the same as water added during manufacturing.

At Dee Dee's Raw, we don't add water to our recipes.

Why Does Added Water Matter?

When you're purchasing frozen raw pet food, you're typically paying by weight.

That means it's worth understanding what's contributing to the weight of the product.

Consider two hypothetical 30 lb boxes of frozen raw pet food.

One contains meat and other listed food ingredients without additional water.

The other contains similar ingredients but also includes water added during production.

Although both boxes weigh 30 lb, the amount of meat and other food ingredients could be different.

Of course, the actual nutritional content depends on the complete recipe, not simply whether water has been added.

But for pet owners comparing products, knowing whether additional water is included can help them understand what they're paying for.

Our Philosophy: Keep It Simple

At Dee Dee's Raw, we believe good food doesn't need to be complicated.

Our raw dog and cat food is made with carefully selected ingredients, including human-grade meats, with the exception of our natural, unbleached green tripe.

We keep our recipes straightforward.

What you won't find added to our food:

Water to increase weight or volumeGrains or fillersArtificial flavoursAdded preservatives

Our food is minimally processed, fresh-frozen and produced locally in Langley, British Columbia.

We want customers to feel confident about the ingredients they're purchasing.

That's why ingredient transparency is so important to us.

What About the Natural Moisture in Meat?

It's important to clarify that our food isn't moisture-free.

Fresh chicken, beef, turkey and other meats naturally contain water. That moisture remains part of the food.

We're not removing the natural moisture from our ingredients.

We're simply not adding extra water during production.

It's a small distinction that can make a meaningful difference when comparing ingredient lists and products.

Quality Goes Beyond the Ingredient List

Choosing raw pet food involves more than looking for a particular protein or checking whether water has been added.

Ingredient sourcing, production practices, appropriate nutritional formulation, storage and safe handling all matter.

Raw meat products also require proper food-safety precautions, including keeping food frozen until needed, thawing it safely and cleaning food-contact surfaces thoroughly.

We believe pet owners deserve straightforward information so they can make informed decisions about what works best for their dogs and cats.
