BC HighwayCams launched in Pemberton Province now has more than 400 online By Braden Dupuis Motorists travelling the Sea to Sky through Pemberton can now check conditions before they leave, thanks to a new set of BC HighwayCams installed at the intersection of Highway 99 and Vine Road. The cameras - launched on Dec. 17 - allow commuters to check current traffic flows and weather conditions at the intersection. They can be viewed at http://images.drivebc.ca/bchighwaycam/pub/html/dbc/597.html (Broken link replaced) "When starting off on a trip, especially in winter, it's important that drivers are prepared and know what the road conditions are and will be like," said West Vancouver-Sea to Sky MLA Jordan Sturdy in a press release. "We know weather and road conditions can vary depending on where you are on the Sea to Sky Corridor, so having this new set of HighwayCams in Pemberton will help paint a more complete picture of Highway 99. This will be of benefit to all who travel the road, local residents or tourists alike." With the addition of the Pemberton cameras, there are now more than 10 BC HighwayCam locations along Highway 99 between North Vancouver and Lillooet. Whistler has its own camera at the intersection of Village Gate Blvd. and Highway 99, as well as one positioned at Riverside Drive, about 13 kilometres north of Whistler, and one at Highway 99 and Cheakamus Lake Road. All told, the Ministry of Transportation has more than 400 cameras at roads and intersections throughout the province. The Drive BC website - launched in 2005 - is the provincial government's most popular website, with more than 14 million views last year. As well as real-time HighwayCam images, the site offers a route finder, current border wait times, inland ferry schedules and information about major incidents.
